| Guys, I know I don't have as high a post count as some of you, but please hear me out.
I found it easier to use your gun's reload time as an indicator of when to shoot to score a timed crit than the time it takes for the damage text to disappear. I tested this with the Shrewd Wooden Gun and Gun Type 2, after hearing that the Type2 has the fastest reload speed among the guns. Surely enough, although barely noticable, T2 reloads faster than at least the Shrewd Wooden. You can test this by switching between the two weapons; if you want, even try using a timer. T2 reloads faster.
Now to the timed crit part. If any of you have tried to score crits with a Shrewd Wooden, you'll notice that you don't click "on the dot" in order to pull it off, unlike the T2; in fact, you have to click immediately after the damage text disappears when using the Shrewd Wooden.
I noticed after a few hours of familiarizing myself with both guns that there is something in common between the two in order to pull off timed crits. It's not the damage text, though. It's the reload time. The amount of time you wait before firing the next shot for a crit is exactly the same between the two guns, and possibly all the guns; but since the reload times are different, there is a difference in the damage text vanishing in relation to your reload time.
That's my take on timed criticals. Try counting exactly 2 seconds after your reload bar is completely filled with different guns to test this hypothesis, I tried it myself and it seems to be correct. Maybe it's some sort of psychological trigger I'm pulling there that enables my subconscious to delay my reaction time between shots to score crits, but I'm pretty sure this experiment can be repeated.
Ryvaeus [in-game name, as well] here, by the way; pleased to meet you all. Your guides and Wiki team has aided me to no end.
