*Most Importantly, The Host Is Important · Be Prepared
If you decide to enter a tourney, remember 3 of the most important things
A. When:
It is important to take note when the tourney is, that way you can plan ahead if you can make it or not
B. Where:
The host chooses what server and where the people will play cards.
Take note on what world/server it’s in, and where it’s being held.
The most commonly held place for card tourneys is in the Carbigal Tea Shop. The teashop is away from crowds, and secretive. This way many people who don’t know about the tourney don’t come barging in and confuse the host.
C. What Time:
Time is most commonly referred to as Pacific Time, GMT: -8:00
This is the official Trickster time, and it is easier to check up on instead of using complicated math to figure out what time to go.
· Know The Rules Before You Play
Every tourney has different rules regarding cards to play.
It is best to figure out what they are before you come so you can strategize what cards you are going to play so you wont freak out on the day of the tourney.
· The Host Knows Best
The host knows best. All disputes regarding card play, behavior, etc should be whispered to the host.
· How Scores Are Tallied
The most commonly used way to calculate who wins are by a win: lose ratio. It is important to whisper the host in the following format.
EX: DemiGodDanzig plays xCardPlayerx. He wins 2,loses one. The way to properly whisper a host is as follows,
“DemigodDanzig vs. xCardPlayerx, 2:1” or just “I got 2:1 against xCardPlayerx”.
That way a host knows who played against whom, and how many times a person won.
The person who won the most rounds should be the one to whisper the host, to further remove complications.
· In Regards To Chat Room
Every player who wishes to participate in a card tourney should log into a specific chat room. That way a host knows who is in, and who is a latecomer. In the chat room, you can talk about cards or whatever, but spamming is strongly frowned upon. Also telling the scores on it is not guaranteed to be seen by the host, which is why you should whisper the host. Also stay in the room, try not to leave, leaving makes things more complicated for a host.
· Card Bulletins
Card bulletins are a good way to find card players you haven’t played, but long distracting bulletins are a no. Simple bulletins with just a simple “Play Me” is enough. Flooding the room with “Play Me” is distracting and unnecessary.
· Card Complications
Problems happen, and here some and how it gets fixed.
A. A person plays a card that is against the rules.
Ex. A person plays a number 13 card in a 6-12 tourney. That round is void and must be replayed. No matter who wins. If a person is seen doing this more then once, and if it seems intentional, be sure to tell the host.
B. Chance
Another big issue is chance. You must return won chanced cards unless player says keep it. Tourney are all about having fun, and worrying about losing a chanced card is a major distraction, especially if you choose to chance a fairly good card. So remember, return all chanced cards unless you are told to keep it.
C. Ties
Ties can happen, but winning a round by luck is valid.
For example, DemiGodDanzig and xCardPlayerx are tied with 2 wins in a single round. No matter if the card that was used to win is against card rules, it is still a valid win. That is because the card was picked by pure chance.
Other times host do not count tied games, and another round is required. Be sure to check up with the host what there preference is to ties.
D. Disconnecting
If in the middle of a game, a person disconnects, remember the current ratio. When a person returns, replay the match. But if winning was inevitable, then a win should be counted for the round. If the other player has a problem with this, be sure to tell the host. If a person continues to have problems and disconnecting frequently, that person is unfortunately disqualified. DC’s are a big problem, and a nuisance to other players who haven’t played the DC’er.
E. Combos
Sometimes a host decides to use the a rule where a person must play a hand with a combo.. It is best to think of more then 1 combos. That way, you can continue playing instead of quitting after each round to get your card back. Just like chanced cards, won combo cards must be returned unless player said to keep it. This way, a person doesn’t worry about never getting a combo card back.
· Behavior
There certain things you can do, and certain things you shouldn’t do
A. Do no spam for card games.
B. Do not leaving the playing area without telling a host. Leaving without telling the host is a disqualification.
C. Do not create shops or Mycamps in the card playing area.
D. If there are many players in one tourney, it is beneficial for the hosts if you unequip your pets, so the things they say wont be a distraction. In a crowded room, no pets make a big difference.
E. Be respectful to a host.
F. Be on time. Being late to a tourney means that you will not be counted as a player, unless the host says otherwise.
G. Do not spam the host with whispers. It makes things harder. Questions such as, "Did you get my score" or others is unwelcome. Just because the host doesnt answer back doesnt mean he/she didnt get it. They are getting whispers from more then one player at times.
· And Most Importantly, The Host Is Important
It is because of the host that you are able to be in a tourney. The host is the mediator, scorekeeper, and the judge. He/she wills determines who is right or wrong in a dispute, and more importantly, the person who is recording the scores.
This is why you should try not to bother the host as much as you can. Being a host is challenging, there are many things a host must be aware of, and further complications are a big strain.
I know this is quite much to read, but it is helpful. After participating in more tournaments, you soon learn these things and wont need this guide at all.
So come on, go out and join any tourney you see.
Inexperience is not a reason to not join in, participate in a tourney and get the flow of how its run.
The great thing about tourneys is sometimes there are quite a few good players there. Remember these people and how they play. Analyzing these players can help further boost in how to play better and strategize better in future games. Also, please note that this guide was written for card players. If certain terms are confusing to you, it is best to learn what they mean.
This is not a guide on how to be a better card player
· Frequently Asked Questions. A. What does KDK stand for?
Well, KDK stands for kadoklub.
The website is
www.kadoklub.co.cc
This is where we go to talk about cards, or about Trickster.
B. What are combos?
Combos are a when you play certain special cards in a single hand. There are quite a few combos out there and it would be wise to learn a few. Losing a round with a combo card makes you lose a random card that was used in the hand.
C. Why are there different card rules?
Card rules are there to determine how good you are as a card player. Anyone can have the best cards, if you dont know how to use them, they're nothing. Different rules are there so everyone has a chance to play, and it adds a bit of depth to just playing the best and strongest cards.
I will update the FAQs as soon as possible after receiving good questions not covered in my guide.
· The Vault
Donations are highly recommended for the vault. Anything that is useable to players, such as cards, galders, or certain equips are ok. If you choose to donate, contact the Treasurer, or post here.
