Quick summary on the characters (Read: Class-choosing guide)

There was once a really great post summarizing the eight characters with much detail. I really don't want the post to fade away, so I am reposting the post here in his stead. All credit for this post goes to fieryshadowcard, and you can find the individual post here, and the thread the post is in here.

That having been said, unlike other MMO's where you can choose the gender of a character class, each gender for each type in this game is its own class.

During first jobs, there are no differences between animals of the same type. Bunnies and Buffalos can learn the same skills and wear the same equips, and the same goes for the animals/genders of each other type.

However, when these characters advance to 2nd Jobs, they take separate paths that also emphasize different sets of skills.

Bunnies become Boxers, who excel at raw damage, accuracy, and single-target close combat. They receive moves that allow them to get in close and to do as much damage as possible in a short amount of time.

Buffalos become Warriors, who emphasize a more in-the-mix type of feel. Their single-target damage potential pales in comparison to Boxers, but they become better at dealing with multiple enemies at once, and get skills that allow them to attack quickly, skills that hit multiple targets in range, as well as a skill that allows them to attack from afar. They also become more tactical, emphasizing debuffs and their stunning skill.

Sheep become elementally enclined Bards. 5 different elements, five different sets of two: earth/fire, fire/lightning, lightning/water, water/wind, wind/earth. Within each element are specializations: fire (raw single-target and splash damage), lightning (stun and target jumping), water (solid damage and debuff potential), wind (centered AoE and swift attacks), earth (lacking damage, but ranged AoE, splash damage, and high hit rate).

Dragons become Magicians who can choose either light or dark paths. Light dragons are solid but emphasize support and healing; they are the defensive dragons. Dark dragons are purely damage dealers. All of their attacks become insanely powerful and focus entirely upon dealing the most damage in a short amount of time.

Foxes are thieves, to an extent, and are known as Explorers in this game's 2nd Job. Adept at physical damage, they are heavily skill-oriented. They deal high physical damage with skills, but their accuracy and melee damage tend to suffer in exchange. Foxes are forced to choose between Power and Charm, and more often than not emphasize Charm over Power. Also, they are more of the merchant-ish class between the Sense Types, though both are adept at making money. They get skills that help them even further in digging and compounding.

Lions become archers... er, gunners. They deal high damage through a specialized form of damage that only sense types can wield (which is, of course, gun damage). Its damage, accuracy and defense are determined by considerably different stats than those that physical and magic damage are determined by. They become Inventors, although none of their 2nd Job skills seem to take advantage of this name... yet.

Cats are offensive tanks. Their attacks emphasize getting in close and weathering the storm against incoming attackers. They are on the frontlines and because they can take a beating, are designed to draw attention to themselves. They are the most adept at dealing damage-per-second, but their highest damage comes as they sacrifice defensive stats for offensive ones. They become Idols, a fitting name for the center of attention in battle.

Raccoons are defensive tanks, and are called Card Masters in the 2nd Job. Their attack skills afford them distance, and they can protect others from afar by absorbing the damage that their allies take. They are much more difficult to kill, and to an extent may have a harder time doing the killing. They become more powerful as they abandon Power stats and embrace Charm stats (ie. abandoning their AP-based and AP/HV-based attacks for purely HV-based ones), and when being solely defensive, deal the highest damage of the two. Damage-per-second, however, still remains the cat's forte.
