Yea, but most people use it as like a chat room now =_= so it's kinda hard to limit oneself to 15 posts when you're talking with someone. Then again there is the PM

wasn't the reason they took the first one out cause of the lag? o.o also, having shoutbox AND flashchat, would that make the server a lot slower?

Hrm - I still think it would be good to have *some* form of realtime chat for our users - it's definitely better to keep up with each other during maintenance and times of boredom than going back to the "New posts" button after every post..

... I know server bandwidth can be an issue, though

More than I'm sure Metal and Baikin are willing to shell out for something that generates no income lol.. they aren't cheap - the one I build was around $2,000 and it's relatively low end - just needed it to run Apache and Samba.

The issue here isn't the server as far as I can tell; it's the bandwidth. I don't think we own our own server; I'm pretty sure it's rented space on rented bandwidth - but I'm not 100% sure.

We've tried IRC channels but they always fail due to activity or people's tolerance of what they find "offensive".

You can have automated bots that kick and IP ban repeated offenders that swear and spam.

You probably can't find a way around offensive links but then again if you click on a posted link you only have yourself to blame.
