Well imo, a person who has been around longer/has more posts can probably have their "word" taken more seriously since people know them and they've stood up to the "test of time". Also, if they've already been around for a while then it's easier to believe that they'd stick around to actually mod and not wander off when TO gets boring. I took the statement that post count didn't matter to mean that like... you don't have to have a million posts, but I would assume that if your first post was "Can I be mod?" it wouldn't go over too well- LOL just my assumption course.

^...that's because sunship edited his post counts. (He has over 2K posts originally) Do you honestly think TMM or Ronin actually has over 9 million post counts? Post counts may not be the MAIN reason for someone to be a mod, but it certainly is one of the criteria like Medora said.
