Red face Yajuukun's Attempt At a Fox Guide!

Hey guys, I'm Yajuukun, and I was looking around and saw that there was a lack of new fox guides. <.< So I decided to take a stab at making one. ^^; This is my first guide so any feedback is greatly appreciated!

What is a Fox?
Out of the 4 major types, Power, Magic, Sense, and Charm, a Fox is the female sense type. Foxes focus on the use of throwing weapons and should use knives as their main source of damage. Foxes are also the class that is best suited for digging, which makes them able to make a lot more cash more easily than other classes. Foxes are also the most suited for maturing compounding, since they have aura of luck, a 2nd Job skill, to stack with Lucky 7 for an extra bonus. Being a Sense type, Foxes also get use of the skill Sticky Foot, which lowers the enemy's HV. This makes them good for fighting bosses and for PvP against those nasty Pure HV Charm Types. Foxes may not top the charts in damage, but they are up there and have a lot of versatility in skills when they train. If the use of powerful ranged and melee skills and excelling at digging and compounding sound good to you, then Fox might just be the thing you are looking for!

Builds

Bonus Points

Pure DA- This is the build that's all about damage. Both Stone Strike and Shuriken Mastery damage is based off this. You'll also be excellent at drilling to boot.

Pure LK- This build is slow to level without some good DA gear, but you'll be excellent at compounding, which is a major plus!

DA/LK Hybrid- This has the best of both worlds, okay damage and still pretty good at compounding.

DA/AC Hybrid- This is for those who want to sacrafice power for better accuracy.

1144
This is probably the most common fox build out there, and for many reasons. You'll have great survivability. At high levels there's little if any worry about being OHKO'd, and you'll be able to tank well due to your high HP and DP. This is the build my fox is currently using.

1243
This build is second most common, but I find 1144 to be a better choice, though this build does have its own perks. You'll have a higher amount of MP so to cover the high MP cost of Stone Strike in your early levels, and you'll still have good HP and DP, but you may have to rely more on hit and run later. Also, the 2 in magic only has 2 useful stats, where all of charm's stats have use. You might regret this later, but this build is still a good choice. ^^

2143
This is a rather interesting build, you sacrafice a little survivability to get a little more accuracy with Stone Strike and Shuriken Mastery. I haven't tried this build before, but this has the same downsides that the 1243 build has, the only Power type stat you really need is AC, and that's about it. AP can be useful in the earlier levels, but as you get to the mid to up 20s, your damage with regular attacks will be megligible at best. This build may be awsome though. <_< I've never tried it, so give it a shot if it sounds cool. ^^

These are the three most viable builds that I can think of. Anything less than a 3 in charm will be having you lose a ton of survivability, and that's not good since you'll likely be in melee range a lot of the time. However, thee builds are just my suggestion, go ahead and try out whatever you think looks fun. :)

Skill Builds

There are your 3 most common skill builds. Please note that these builds do not include getting 3rd job skills since eTO is still a long way away from getting 3rd jobs released.

High AC Build
Stone Strike--> Master (12 TM Points, 41 Sand Powder to Master) [TMlv 12]
Sixth Sense--> Master (13 TM Points, 23 Water Drop Jewel to Master) [TMlv 25]
Gun Carrier--> (5 TM Points) [TMlv 30]
Invincible Reload--> (5 TM Points) [TMlv 35]
Gun Booster--> (15 TM Points, 14 Blue Feather to Master) [TMlv 50]
Armor Destructor--> Lv.1 (2 TM Points) [TMlv 52]
Lucky 7--> Master (16 TM Points, 9 Salamanderine Eggs to Master) [TMlv 68]
Land Mine--> Master (15 TM Points, 55 Black Gun Powder to Master) [TMlv 95 w/ 12 extra points]

This build is for people who are willing to spend a few TM points to have no problems with accuracy. You see, when gun booster is mastered, you gain 20 AC when you have it cast, so that's a large buff in accuracy! Skills I reccommed getting when you finish are Shuriken Mastery and Aura of Luck.

Pure DA/LK LEVELING Build
Invincible Drill--> Master (1 TM Point) [TMlv 1]
Stone Strike--> Master (12 TM Points, 41 Sand Powder to Master) [TMlv 13]
Sixth Sense--> Master (13 TM Points, 23 Water Drop Jewel to Master) [TMlv 26]
Shuriken Mastery--> Mastery (13 TM Points, 29 Orange Scarab to Master) [TMlv 39]
Armor Destructor--> Lv.1 (2 TM Points) [TMlv 41]
Lucky 7--> Master (16 TM Points, 9 Salamanderine Eggs to Master) [TMlv 57]
Aura of Luck--> (15 TM Points, 7 Naranjo Card to Master) [TMlv 72]
Land Mine--> Master (15 TM Points, 55 Black Gun Powder to Master) [TMlv 90 w/ 3 extra points]
Heavy Carrier--> Master (12 TM Points, 20 Empty Boxes to Master) [TMlv 99]
Pouch of Pain--> Master (16 TM Points, 8 Red Rosary to Master) [TMlv 115]

This build is for both Pure DA and Pure LK builds. It is made for trying to level up as fast as possible and skips out on the digging skills. You should be good at compounding with this build. Not to mention you'll be able to carry a ton of items with Heavy Carrier. After finishing this build I highly reccommend that you get Sticky Foot Mastered, Armor Destucrtor to Lv 10, and Master Sticky Icky so that you will own in PvP. <_< However, this is cutting it close to 3rd job which are supposedly coming at the end of the summer, so you may choose to start saving points!

Leveling

These are the places that I reccommend you level at. Also, it cannot be stressed enough that you LEVEL IN A x2.5 ROYAL OR SPECIAL PARTY! Doing this will greating increase your leveling speed.

~~1-5~~
I highly reccommend you do the tutorial. You'll get some nice gear and learn your way about the game. If you skip, just fight Fanta Stars if you ended up in Paradise or kill Torrobie if you landed in Blooming Cora until you have the 10g to warp to Paradise.

~~5-10~~
Go to Beach Field 5 and fight the Shell Traps until around 7 or 8, then move on to Fanta Fish. Stone Strike is stil weak at this point and costs a lot of MP, but it will be worth it soon! You can also try digging for some quest items. ^^

~~10-17~~
Head to Beach Field 2 and fight the Fan Lizard and Pineapples there. Make sure you pick up your level 10 gear before you come here. These guys should be a piece of cake since your stone strike will be getting pretty strong by now.

~~17-25~~
Warp to Aquarius from the Gate of Desert Beach and head to Seabed Field 4, your new training grounds until 25. Once you hit level 20, go ahead and buy or dig for your new gear and you'll finally see how strong foxes really are.

~~25-35~~
If you have a high level character that can get Nora Sprayers, you can get from 25-35 in about a minute, but if you're not so lucky, head to the Southeast Forest by warping to Megapolis. Here you should be able to kill the Popo and Queen Yamu in two or three hits for some great experience.

~~35-45~~
Once you get your new gear, you have a choice of where to go. The Path to Oops Wharf is good because it is very easy to find a group there and the exp is excellent, but your TM will likely fall behind. Your other option is Path to Caballa Relics. This place is a sort of hidden gem. Great Exp and TM exp but you may have trouble finding a party here.

~~45-55~~
You can keep training at the Path to Oops Wharf if you would like until 50. Then... It's time to get your 2nd Job! Congratulations! You'll need 8 Ceramic Shoes, 12 Pottery Dolls, 4 Driller Tickets and 25 Discus. They may be hard to find, but the massive TM boost you get will make up for it. Alternatively, at 45 you can head straight to Path to Phantom School and level there until 55. :) There a good quest for hunting the Gallis here for when you hit 51 to augment your leveling speed.

~~55-70~~
You can stay at Path to Phantom School until 60 if you'd wish, or when you hit 55, you can head to Path to Black Swamp. This area is both awsome and terrible. The quest you get killing snails here is insane, but you'll meet the most hated enemy in the game, Super Golden Moles. They are fast, crit often, and chase you for what seems like forever. Be sure to bring lots of potions lol. Another option is in Relic Field 4. This area has Mimic and Aposis, which are nowhere near as bad as Super Golden Moles, but the exp here will be slower and it's a little more difficult to find a party.

~~70-90~~
Yep, you're in the next area for quite awhile. You get 2 options now, Swamp 2 or Swamp 6. Swamp 2 is a little safer, but this is where a lot of magic types level, and the spawn is not as dense. Swamp 6 will net you much faster exp because there are Arachne EVERYWHERE. This makes it a little more dangerous however, and the Mud Bigfoot here may give you a little trouble. I like Swamp 6 a lot more than Swamp 2.

~~90-100~~
You get your options again! Stick with swamp 6 since you should be able to OHKO Arachne now, or head to Path to Snow Hills. Here you'll find bugbear and joker. Joker are your targets for now, and they are even easier then arachne! Beware of the bugbear though. They move slow, but hit pretty hard.

~~100-12X~~
Congrats on making it to 100! You made it over a fairly large hurdle! You really just gain two more options at this level, and those options are Music Room and Art Room at Phantom School Annex. Both of these places have mobs that hit insanely hard, but it can be excellent EXP and TM if you use an EQ share party. However, Swamp 6 and Path to Snowhill are still much easier to find parties at, because parties in the annex are very rare. (Yes, You will get sick of Swamp 6, but from what I've seen, foxes don't get much else -.-

*More Leveling Areas to be added as I reach them <.<;*

Item and Monster Quests

In this section I will be going through all the item and monster quests that give large exp, TMexp, or have good rewards. There are others out there, but these are the best of them from what I have seen.

Environmental Protection (Bunny Maid in Blooming Cora) [Level 5+]
5x Torn Boot, 5x Plastic Bag, 5x Old Bowl, 5x Old Spoon

This quest is worth doing at least 10 repeats, because it will net you your level 50 pet, the UFO, which is the pet you use from 50-100.

Hunter Master Quest (Blooming Cora or Paradise) Kill 1 Bluffy Bad Puri/Grumpy Octopus in 5 minutes)

Doing this quest in Blooming Cora or Paradise can net you a Disabled Person's Pocket, which has +1 DA and a nice WT Bonus and a slot where you can comp DP or LK.

Poppuri Request (Poppuri Dungeon - Moss Cave, Poppuri) [Lv 10+]
3x Poppuri Whistle, 5 repeats

This is a great TM boost for a level 10 to get, 50k TM exp per turn in is excellent. I think it can get you from TM 10 to TM 20 with all 5 repeats.

A Sad Decision (Nora's Sewage, Weepy Nora near enterance) [Lv 25+]
5x Nora Sprayer, 25 repeats

This is the first major EXP quest you can do. If you do all 25 repeats at level 25 you are guaranteed to get to level 35. You'll also get a Nora Drill with each turn in.

Gate of Phantom School Monster Quest (Love Hunter Robin, Gate of Phantom School)
Lv 30 ~ 50: 20x "Ghost Book" (lvl 51) in 20 minutes [190000 TM exp per repeat]
Lv 51 ~ 70: 20x "Maro Toy" (lvl 67) in 20 minutes [390000 TM exp per repeat]
Lv 71 ~ 90: 20x "Tritch" (lvl 80) in 20 minutes [450000 TM exp per repeat]
Lv 91 ~ 110: 20x "Egg Specter" (lvl 94) in 20 minutes [600000 TM exp per repeat]
Lv 111 ~ 150: 20x "Frozen Corpse" (lvl 111) in 20 minutes [700000 TM exp per repeat]

All of these quests are great for TM exp meaning you should do all 5 repeats for each. They are all fairly simple as well and the monsters are easy to find.

Assisting Mel (Card Girl, Gate of Black Swamp) [Lv 50+]
2x Swamp Shark Card, 2x Arachane Card, 25 Repeats

If you have a high level friend, or manage to make enough money to buy these cards, you'll be able to skip from 50-60 in a flash! It is greatly encouraged you do this quest.

Megapolis Monster Quest (Hunter Yuri, Megapolis Monster Guild)
Hunt 40 Galli in 40 minutes, 25 Repeats

This quest is helpful for when you are leveling in the early to mid 50s then it starts to slow down. Still worth doing a few repeats of this quest.

All of these quests have excellent rewards. There is an even greater need to do the Study Notes, and Red Tissue quests. The Possessed Fork has +7 DA on it, and Duo Doctor when compounded with DP is the best innerwear in the game right now! The other 3 have valuable rewards or are just nice EXP bonuses.

Carbigal Monster Quest (Hunter Yuri, Carbigal Monster Guild) [Lv60-100]
Hunt 35 Electric Snail in 20 minutes, 25 Repeats

This quest is amazing. It's may sound difficult, but the snails are insanely easy to kill and the exp reward is godly. I got from 60-70 doing this quest in a x2.5 party. The only problem is those stupid moles, and you should be able to kill those guys relatively easily. ;D

I have not listed a lot of TM quests or the Card Quests here please click the links below for information on these! I highly advise you do as many of them as possible! (Especially 80+)

Mel's Card Quest List by Tandava
Citrustang's TM Quest List

These are not all the quests by far and there are many more worth doing because every bit of exp helps. Consult Sambo's Quest Guide for more info.

~Equipment~

This section is devoted all to which equipment you should be wearing each level!
NOTE: This is section is only for leveling. I have no idea which equipment LK foxes should wear for when they are compounding. I'll likely add that as I find it out. This also does NOT include myshop equipment. If you are willing to spend the money, the myshop gear is almost always a better buy.

Weapon: Sensible Bronze Sword
Shield: Wooden Buckler (If you can get your hands on an HP comped Spell Wooden Buckler, get that)

Accessory2: Feel-More Ring
Pet: UFO
Innerwear: Same as level 50

Level 60
Weapon: Craft or Custom Dirk w/ DA comp
Shield: No new shield
Hat: DA Comped Craft or Custom Beret (You shouldn't need a DP one if you got a good HP shield)
Accessory1: Sign of Excavation (WT or LK comp, it's all a matter of preference )
Accessory2: Feel-More ring
Pet: UFO
Innerwear: Golden Mole Vest with HP, DP, or LK comp (this is an event item) if you can't get this, just keep your Duo Doctor or Health Band

Weapon: Craft or Custom Gladius w/ DA comp [Level 75]
Shield: No new Shield
Hat: DA Comped Hunting Cap
Accessory1: No new accessory
Accessory2: No new accessory

Ummm, there isn't much you get here, so I'll just list items for the slots that you can get new stuff.
Shield: Craft/Custom/Master Square Screen (HP) or Craft/Custom/Master Silver Screen (DP)
Hat: DA comped Turban, but this is entirely optional since your craft hunting cap could very well be better.

Level 90
Weapon: Craft/Custom/Master Kaldo w/ DA comp
Hat: Craft/Custom/Master Soft Hat w/ DA comp
and... that's about it for new gear. lol

Level 100
Weapon: Craft/Custom/Master Kukuri (DA comp obviously) [Level 105]
Hat: Craft/Custom/Master Cowboy Hat (Again, DA) [OPTIONAL]
Shield: Craft/Custom/Master Black Screen (HP) or Craft/Custom/Master Gold Screen (DP)
Pet: Fairy Angel Blue (This is your final pet, unless you use myshop)
No new equipment in rest of slots

This is all I know gear wise so far. <.< I'll update as I level. ^^;

Pretty concise and clear guide, great job >_>

May I suggest getting Item Detector in your digger/melee build, as it is a great digging skill at higher levels. Also get Sixth Sense before Gun Booster, and Shuriken Master before Basic Detection, in order to train faster.

Another suggestion is that you could indicate the TM Level at which you can master each skill in the skill builds so that people who follow you guides have a better indication of their progress, such as this:
Gun Booster--> (TM Level 37, 15 TM Points, 14 Blue Feather to Master)
But only if you can keep the clean look of your guide.

Also, I would have stressed the importance of joining a 2x or 2.5x party in training.

See if you agree with the above suggestions. Looking forward to updates, and thanks for the credit

Just wondering - for shuriken master, what items do we use to throw? And is it worth getting? Approx. how much damage does it do?

I currently use Fire Needles, as they are the best throwing weapon currently available that can be bought at an NPC. However, when you are leveling at Path to Black Swamp, the enemies there drop Gong Marble and Double-Sided Marbles pretty often, so you should pick up as many as possible. You can also use Big Needles, because Throwing Weapon AP plays less of a role than DA does in determining damage. As for damage...

The formula for damage and accuracy of Stone Strike when Mastered is:
Damage = ( DA+1 ) * 46
100% Accuracy = 72 + Enemy HV * 2.5

The formula for damage and accuracy of Shuriken Mastery when Mastered is:
Damage = ( DA + AP/10 ) * 33 - 1
100%AC = 39.5 + Enemy HV * 2.5

As, you can see, Shuriken is MUCH more accurate than Stone Strike, which makes it very useful for builds that decide to skip out on Gun Booster.

Let's say you have 100 DA and we're using Fire Needles:

Stone Strike = 4646 Damage
Shuriken Mastery = 3431 Damage

Yes, Shuriken has a much lower damage rating, but it's accuracy makes up for this. This skill is also useful for if you cannot OHKO an enemy, you can use Shuriken Mastery to finish off the enemy. You may skip it if you went with the Gun Booster build, but for any others, I very highly reccommend it.

o_O I've been to most stores but i've never seen fire needles. Which stores are they at? Gonna get SM on my fox after basic detect, cause it's a driller XD

Nice guide btw, very detailed and yet concise, you can find what you need without scrolling through pages of stuff.

Oops, sorry. <.< Forgot to mention where they are sold. They are only sold at the Phantom School Annex Snack Bar. They are Level 20 and have 40 Throwing AP. They're 60g each. ^^ I hope this helps! You can just use Big Needles if you would prefer to save money because the damage isn't that much better with Fire than Big. I'm just really anal about using the best store bought needles. XD And I'm in the School often enough, so I pretty much always have a good supply of needles. ^.^ I usually carry about 500-700 needles at a time, depending of where I'm training and how hard the mobs are.

You won't really want PP, though, because you have to use very good throwing items to see any effect, but it is hard to get a stable supply of such items for training.

Unless you are willing to spend hours digging/hunting for massive numbers of the high level throwing items, skip out on PP. Also, I only reccommend you get Aura of Lucky early if you are a Pure Luck build. Aura is a good skill, but you don't need it as much in the other builds. Lucky 7 is a very nice boost and you should get it right away, since DT's damage is based evenly on DA and LK. If you do get Aura, you should get it after you get Det, unless you are skipping basic detection, then you'll probably have enough points to master both LK+ skills, in which case, go ahead and master Aura and Lucky 7 right away :)

with level 10 basic detect, once i job change 4 TM points + 13 TM points from TM level 38 to 51, i can manage to master Lucky 7. so i guess i will skip the SM since i would rely greatly on SS for OHKO
