| ...well, I might say that it's better than it was before but still not worth investing points into unless you're dead impatient or have nothing else to put points into. It's capped at 110m when mastered. | | (Offline)

I know because I keep getting those quest items, while countless other ppl just runs around me trying to dig as well and they all got nothing...

| Considering how unnecessary most fox skills are, it hardly matters if you spend points on it... and for lions it'll be a long time before you get enough DA for 100% detection. I have a fox on Fantasia and a lion on Jewelia for drilling, both with lvl 7 BD. Even though my fox has plenty of DA now, it still saves time over randomly drilling, especially when looking for a cluster of items in the first place (once I find one then I just start combing the area without bothering with BD anymore). For my lion it's a massive time-saver; back before 2nd jobs were changed I did a ton of drilling in Rose Field 1 at lvl 4x, it would have been totally futile without BD (blue drills FTL).
Personally I don't really care about the overlap deal, I can't remember every single circle position as it is... I just hit the spots that are in a memorizable pattern, then recast BD and repeat, eventually all the spots that weren't revealed initially get hit.

So thats the overall picture. | u mean ID can still fail now that BD doesn't fail? anybody tried out ID yet...? and what is the % of success?
i am concerned about having a skill that is not future-proof... so BD will not be as useful in future when i have to dig in deeper areas beyond 110m....
however if ID does not work like BD now... it doesn't sound as appealing either.... :inf:
another question... what is the "duration" of the skills means? does it refer to how long does the detection spots appear? in that case there is no need to spam ID since the duration is longer... can i say that...?

wacky | I have mastered ID and I'd like to say it sucks
It detects a specific targetted area that is your DA multiplied by a certain number depending on the skill level. The catch is it's MP cost is much higher and it fails alot, ESPECIALLY at low levels. So, half of the time, you're either drilling or waiting for the skill to finish it's cool down until you use that small targetting circle to look for more items.
Now if there was a skill that combined basic detection's functionality with item detector's depth it'll be worth getting for those... 'digging' foxes and people with spare skill points | | (Offline)

Basic Detection or Item Detector? | let's get the laydown on both:
basic detect
+has that new detection system like proven in the screenshots
+more reliable(?)
+low cooldown and mp cost
-110m cap (considering most of the higher level areas are 120m and above this skill is only good for event drilling)
item detect
+can detect more than 110m
+can target a specific area(im not sure if this is a good thing or not but meh)
-crappy mp cost
-shitty cooldown
-unreliable
you decide. | | (Offline)

| Oh, the max # of detects for BD is now 50 (up 1 from 49)
It scans a 13x13 area (containg up to 169 points) which means that it's possible that BD won't show you all the spots available unless you drill up the ones already detected or move to a different location.
Though, typically, if you hit the 50 limit you are standing on a cluster and you'll drill up enough to see the rest anways.

you decide. | i think i'll go for basic detect.... but it costs 13 TM to master it...
while item detect can only use 4 TM... :3
gah....
